The reason I thought about this is because my current house doesn’t have a doorbell, and for the life of me I can’t ever remember not having a doorbell in any house that I’ve lived in. One thing’s for sure, not having one is fine with me. But it did make me wonder who came up with this invention, my first thought it had to be the door to door salesman, or any of the other solicitors that wander through the neighborhoods.
As you can imagine door knockers have been around for quite some time, but I was interested in who invented the first electronic doorbell. That honor goes to Mr. Joseph Henry in 1831, apparently he had a strong interest in electromagnets and came up with the doorbell at 31 years of age, and ever since door to door salespeople have been paying homage to Mr. Henry.
